Issue with Telco resolved

Early this morning we had an issue with one of our telephone providers.  This prevented inbound calls to about 1/3 of our members.

Between approx. 7AM and 1015AM inbound calls to our members who have numbers issued by that telco. were not completed.  The issue has been resolved and calls are going through normally.

Service Issue [resolved]

We are experiencing an issue with one of our ad providers.  It is causing dropped & silent calls.

We are working to resolve ASAP.

Update – 2:15PM ET: We have implemented a work-around and things are back to ‘normal’.  Thanks for your patience.

Problem with new registrations [Updated]

We have discovered a bug in our verification process that affects some of you that have registered in the last week.  This bug prevented the activation of your new Brring number after completion of the verification process.

The bug has been squashed and we are in the process of correcting the registrations of those that were impacted by it.  We will post an update when the corrections are complete.

We’re very sorry for the inconvenience but as the cliché goes…  ‘this is why we call it beta!

Update: All affected accounts were updated as of midnight on the 20th.  If you are still having trouble please contact support at brring.com.

We are NOT taking a long winters’ nap…

Greetings and welcome to the New Year!  It’s been awhile since we last updated you on the goings on at Brring so with the dawning of a new year we thought it appropriate to let you know what we’ve been working on of late.

The gnomes may be hunkered down for the New England winter but they are making great use of the ‘indoor time’ (ice-induced power outages not withstanding).  The majority of our time is spent developing a entirely redesigned web site.  There are usability and graphical refinements too numerous to mention but the biggest changes are in the area of ringback tone management.  There are TONS of new features including the ability to specify which section of your uploaded track that will become your ringback tone — very slick!

We’ve also made several improvements in the back-end call handling systems.  The latest development is a ‘caller blacklist’ feature.  This tool allows you to block calls from a given phone number, cities or even entire area codes.  We can also use this functionality to block calls to all members from high-volume ‘phone-spam’ telemarketers.  We have not yet built an interface to this feature on the website but if you are being harrased by a particular caller please send an email to support (support at brring dot com) and we’ll put the block in for you.

We’ve also increased the reliability of the system with the addition of a second telco provider.  This improves our ability to complete outgoing calls if our primary provider is down or busy.

There is a plethora of other work being accomplished that contribues to the oprational robustness of the service and the managment of the business issue involved with a survice such as Brring.  They are WAY too boring to mention here but surfice it to say they are necessary for the continued and smooth operation of ‘our thing’.

Service Outage

We are experiencing a service interruption at our hosting facility.  The web site is currently unavailable.

Update 12:13PM ET:

Site is back up and calls are being completed.  We are testing to verify things are back to normal.

Profiling Facebook friends not working

Facebook has gone and changed the interface we were using to allow you to profile your Facebook friends.  Sadly, they didn’t share that fact with us.

The result is that profile Facebook friends is currently broken.

‘dead air’ issue resolved

We finally outgrew the rather gnarly method we were using to provide custom ringback tones.  We, of course, had anticipated this and were in the midst of testing a vastly more elegant (and flexible) method.

We moved that new method into production yesterday and the system is running smoothly again.  If you are still experiencing long periods (more than a few seconds) of silence after the sponsor’s message please let us know here.
